30 Minutes Of Joyful Female Song Vocals

By Giovani Saintiny

Now that you can buy songs one at a time in MP3 format, it's possible to be a lot pickier about what you listen to. So, I've started listing what I really want to hear.

In many cases I only want to hear instrumental music, since I do a lot of reading and writing (as I'm doing now). However, when I can afford to sit back and enjoy lyrics, as well, I've got very strong preferences.

Most of all, I enjoy hearing a female lead singer! And, I prefer melodic pieces to most of the thrashing stuff. I prefer upbeat to downbeat (but, there are always exceptions). Here's an example of a playlist that would rock my world, and maybe yours, too!

1) Breathe (Faith Hill). I consider this to be a perfect song! Every sentiment is expressed in a positive manner. It focusses on something everyone is forever involved in (breathing). And, it's simply so passionate!

2) Unwritten (Natacha Bedingfield). Another perfectly positive song! Truly rousing! Beautiful symbolism. It cheers me up, every time.

3) We've Only Just Begun (Karen Carpenter). This song started out in a commercial for an insurance company. It was so beautiful, people started asking for it to be played at their weddings! A song that truly looks to the future. And, Karen Carpenter had such a gorgeous voice. . . .

4) The Look Of Love (Dust Springfield). Okay, Diana Krall does a nice job--I've grown to love it more with time. However, I've been listening to Springfield's version from the original 007 movie, CASINO ROYALE (More a Woody Allen comedy than a James Bond movie). And, it's simply nuanced in a way that's hard to beat. Very mellow.

5) Tomorrow (Andrea McArdle). The original ANNIE on Broadway is still the best version! Makes you want to go out and take over the world! (With love, of course!)

6) Destination Calabria [AKA Destination Unknown] (Crystal Waters). If you ever see the video, be prepared for some very seductive glamor! The lyrics, in any case, are amazingly mystifying and speak of a confident journey into the unknown. And the horns make you feel like you could walk through anything and come out, just fine. Thrilling stuff!

7) Magic (Olivia Newton-John). Want to feel held in the arms of eternal, yet loving mystery? This song lets you know that everything's gonna be all right.

8) Making Our Dreams Come True [AKA Theme from LAVERNE & SHIRLEY] (Cyndi Grecco). Good luck finding this one! But, it always put a smile on my face. I especially like the children's rhyming game that starts-off the song.

9) For Your Eyes Only (Sheena Easton). Another great 007 tune, this time from a real James Bond movie (of the same name). Very "loungy," of course. I, too, like my martini "shaken not stirred."

10) There's Always A Way (Julianna Rose Mauriello) [Young Ms Mauriello plays Stephanie in the children's TV show, LAZY TOWN]. This song's right up there with "Tomorrow," as far as I'm concerned. On the other hand, "Tomorrow's" got a touch of gravitas, so this song is actually a little lighter.

11) Sing (Karen Carpenter). Karen Carpenter, again. And, yup, I'm talking about that old Sesame Street "Sing, sing a song" bit. Come on! Doesn't it make you wanna smile and get out a bubble blowing kit and skip all around like a three year old? That's what it does for me! :O)

So, there you have it! This is what I think I'll play while driving around! At about three minutes per song, we're talking about over thirty minutes of bright eye, bushy tail. Enjoy!
