Free Shares Of Stock: A Stock Market Case History
By Giovani Saintiny
Possibly, the most famous example of a company offering free shares of stock to the public was Travelzoo, in 1998. They announced issue of 700,000 registration numbers to be traded-in for stock on demand by a certain date. Strangely enough, the majority of registrants never bothered requesting their stock! However, the company continued to honor trade-ins long after the cut-off date. A lot of people presumed the whole arrangement was a hoax or a scam. But, Travelzoo now sells on the NASDAQ for $5.56 per share. The nay-sayers were, to put it quite simply, wrong. And, those who knew how to take yes for an answer walked away with a pile of free money! Something to think about. |
