What's A Sigil?

It's not all that different from a logo, really! They tend to look more cragly, but that's because they're not about subtle three-dimensionality (Notice how a lot of logos try to look like buttons you might be able to push?), nor are they typically colored-up. A sigil is made by taking a phrase (or word), getting rid of vowels and redundant consonants, and then playing with the shapes of the remaining letters. What's left can be said to have the essence of the phrase from which it came. And, when you look at it, there's a spooky quasi-memory of the original phrase, but that's all the conscious mind can tap into. But, you can feel the significance. The subconscious mind is all but screaming it! Some people like to look at a sigil at a moment of emotional climax. Orgasm, for instance, in some German Chaos Magick. Others prefer to meditate while gazing at one, or just to use a Post-It Note on the bathroom window. Sigils are a great way to commune with your subconscious mind. And, if you like easy puzzles or word games, these are right up your alley! |
